SUMMARY:New Beginnings Spring Retreat
DESCRIPTION:New Beginnings is a retreat weekend for middle schoolers (grades 6-8). \nThis weekend is led by High Schoolers who have participated in previous programs and adults who are active in our Diocese. This weekend reflects on the many relationships a young person has in their life during that time. SUMMARY:School for Ministry
DESCRIPTION:Diaconal Formation Program\nThe School for Ministry program includes preparation in five general areas as prescribed in the Canons of the Episcopal Church: \n\nAcademic Studies (including Holy Scripture\, Theology\, and the tradition of the Church)\nDiakonia and the Diaconate\nHuman awareness and understanding\nSpiritual development and discipline\nPractical training and experience\n\nThe curriculum includes a 200-hour course/experience in Clinical Pastoral Training (CPT) and three semesters of field education. Classes meet at Dayspring Conference Center. \nThe School for Ministry is one of 27 Episcopal dioceses participating a member of the Iona Collaborative\, a program of the Seminary of the Southwest in Austin\, Texas. The opportunity to share ideas and information with counterparts across the country strengthens our program and provides support for our local facilitators while helping build consistency of the curriculum. The School uses a “flipped classroom” pedagogical model; students spend time between classes with online material developed by the Seminary faculty\, and class time with local facilitators is used for discussions\, practice\, and other formational activities.

SUMMARY:Fall Clergy Retreat
DESCRIPTION:The Fall Clergy Retreat is an important time for the clergy of the Diocese of Southwest Florida to gather for prayer\, worship\, fellowship\, and reflection. The theme for this year’s retreat is drawn from the familiar passage in John 15\, in which Jesus compares his relationship with his disciples to that of a vine and branches. This is also where Jesus declares the seventh and final “I AM” statement\, “I am the True Vine\,” and describes the life of discipleship as a life of abiding in Christ and his love. Bearing fruit (productivity) is the outgrowth of a life deeply embedded in Christ. We invite you to join Bishop Scharf as we reflect more deeply on our call to abide in Jesus\, not as a passive escapism from the woes of the world\, but as the source of abundant life that shapes and empowers our public witness. \n
