Education for Ministry Program
Education for Ministry is a four-year certificate program for laity under the direction of The School of Theology at Sewannee, The University of the South.
A Program Unlike Any Other
The Education for Ministry program is not like any other bible study. An in-depth study of scripture is an integral part of the program, but it is not the only part.
EFM is a powerful combination of scripture, worship, theology, and theological reflection which helps students develop the skills they need to better discern their call to ministry.
About the Program
Since its founding in 1975, this international program has assisted more than 30,000 students in discovering how to respond to the call of Christian service.
The EfM program is preparation for the ministry to which we all are called. It is that vocation for which we pray at the end of the eucharist: “And now, Father, send us out to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord.”
The Diocese of Southwest Florida supports this important ministry to laity and offers classes and training at parishes in Southwest Florida.
