Diocese Announces Promotion of John Edgar to Director of Accounting and Congregation Support

The Episcopal Diocese of Southwest Florida is pleased to announce the promotion of John Edgar to Director of Accounting and Congregation Support.

In this expanded role, John will now oversee diocesan benefits administration, accounting, and payroll, while continuing to support congregations across the diocese. He will also assume accounting responsibilities for DaySpring Camp and Conference Center, strengthening financial systems that support both diocesan operations and ministry impact.

“John’s prior work experiences, ability to automate manual processes, enthusiasm, and creativity make him an ideal candidate for this position,” said Michael Booher, Canon for Finance and Administration. “John has already implemented process automation that has eliminated the need to print and store paper copies of accounting documents, potentially saving the diocese thousands of dollars annually. The diocese is very fortunate to have John on staff. I look forward to working with him to continue implementing many improvements over the next few years.”

John joined the diocesan staff in January 2022 as Director of Congregation Support, where he has provided vital guidance to congregations in budgeting, audits, parochial reports, and financial education. Prior to joining the Diocese, John served as Parish Administrator at St. John’s in Tampa, a church where he also grew up—attending the day school and singing in the choir.

A Tampa native, John holds a B.S. in Political Science from Florida State University and an MBA with a focus on Finance from the University of South Florida. His professional background includes operational roles in the healthcare and mortgage industries, with a passion for strategic financial planning and operational analysis.

Outside of work, John enjoys tinkering with computers, canoeing on the Hillsborough River, and cooking.

We are grateful for John’s dedication, creativity, and servant leadership, and we look forward to the many ways his gifts will continue to strengthen our diocesan community.

Please join us in congratulating John Edgar on this well-deserved promotion!
