Holy Trinity’s Outreach partnership with Sandy Lane Elementary, a Title-1 school in Clearwater, produced 320 filled backpacks for every student in the school.
Over 50 volunteers ages 3 to 80 from donor organizations, the parish, and the community came on July 27 for the well-organized event. All instructional staff at Sandy Lane also received a custom-branded canvas bag with classroom supplies to limit out-of-pocket expenses.
Throughout the year, the church also supports the T-ball team and Safety Patrol, provides a staff luncheon, makes home-made desserts and thank-you cards for all staff during teacher appreciation week, and parishioners volunteer in the classroom on Teach Across America Day and read to the students on Dr. Seuss Day.
Small fidget toys used as learning motivators and behavior awards are also provided for the school store. The church was previously nominated for a Pinellas Education Foundation “Changemaker Award” for its support of the school’s children and staff, and hopes to be in the running for the award again this year!
