Lent 2026: Resources for Renewal and Restoration

“Although often characterized by austerity and somberness, Lent is largely a season of renewal and restoration. The spiritual work of self-examination and repentance is never an end unto itself. Rather, it is the process by which we open ourselves more completely to the healing and transforming presence of God.” – Bishop Doug Scharf

On Ash Wednesday, we hear the ancient words: “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” Those words invite us to be honest about our mortality, our brokenness, and our deep need for God’s grace. And with that, the holy season of Lent begins. Traditionally, Lent is a season of reflection, prayer, and opening of the heart that we hope ultimately brings us into a closer alignment with God.

In that spirit, we have compiled a list of resources for Lent and invite you to explore which might be meaningful to you in this season.

From the Diocese of Southwest Florida:

You are invited to meet with Bishop Scharf over Zoom each Sunday evening of Lent at 8:00 p.m. to observe the Office of Compline, a quiet and contemplative service of nighttime prayer.  On this page, you will find a message from Bishop Scharf, a link to the weekly Sunday night prayer service and a downloadable calendar reminder.

From Episcopal Relief and Development:

Episcopal Relief and Development has partnered with Sister Monica Clare, an Episcopal nun, author and unlikely TikTok star for a series of daily meditations based on Sister Monica’s “Holy Habits” to deepen your spiritual practice.  Here you will find links to the daily meditations, a sign up to receive them in the form of emails to your inbox, and other resources.

From the United Thank Offering:

The United Thank Offering has created a five session book club around the book The Serviceberry: Abundance and Reciprocity in the Natural World by Robin Wall Kimmerer.  This book was selected by UTO staff because it “takes a look at how the natural world functions via a gift economy as plants, animals, soil, etcetera share what they have for the common good.”  On this page you can download resources for studying the book, opt in to receive daily Lent text messages from UTO, and register for the book club.

From Seminary of the Southwest:

Seminary of the Southwest is offering a weekly video series, each one hosted by an esteemed member of their faculty.  Each weekly video is accompanied by thoughtful discussion questions, additional resources, and Bible readings. They are created to offer a hopeful reminder that even in times of change, God is at work bringing new life. On this page you will find the videos with accompanying resources, and a link to request that they be sent to your email inbox.
