Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I would like to give you a brief update regarding the impacts of Hurricane Milton and the status of our recovery efforts. Fourteen of our congregations suffered damage in Hurricane Milton and have filed claims with Church Insurance. Many of the members of our congregations and local communities were also adversely affected by the storm and are beginning the long process of recovery and rebuilding.
In addition, this past Sunday we discovered water intrusion in the Diocesan House at DaySpring. The lift station that services the Diocesan House was without power for an extended period of time, which resulted in sewer water backing up into the building. Remediation efforts have already commenced, but the Diocesan staff will be working in a temporary space at DaySpring or remotely from home for the foreseeable future.
We are currently in the process of finalizing plans for our rescheduled Diocesan Convention, which will likely include both virtual and in-person components. I will be meeting with my staff tomorrow to review and coordinate these plans. More information will be forthcoming very soon.
I ask for your fervent prayers for all who have been impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Milton. I am grateful for the many phone calls, emails, and text messages offering support. Right now, the most urgent need is financial support, which will directly benefit the impacted congregations and local communities in their recovery efforts. We are also assisting with the coordination of work parties and other outreach initiatives to support those in need. For more information, please visit our diocesan website or email Kate Johnson to share specific needs in your area.
Once again, thank you for your faithfulness and generosity of spirit in the midst of these challenging times. My prayers are with you. May the God of hope sustain you and give you strength.
Faithfully in Christ, |
