New Dean for the School of Ministry

PARRISH –

Dear friends,

I am delighted to announce that I have appointed the Reverend Scott Nonken to serve as the next Dean of our Diocesan School for Ministry. He begins this ministry immediately.

I am very grateful that Scott has accepted my invitation to serve as Dean. This is an exciting time for our diocesan School for Ministry as we continue to assist people in engaging more deeply with their call to ministry.

Ordained a priest on 17th May 2022, Fr. Nonken is uniquely well-suited for the position of Dean: he possesses firsthand knowledge of the School, having received his training for ordained ministry through the School for Ministry. Scott was a pioneer student when we embarked with the Iona Collaborative seminary level curriculum; this will have beneficial impact upon the diocese with its focus on the two orders of ordained ministry, the diaconate and the presbyterate.

I know from my conversations with Scott that he is excited about this opportunity to further serve God’s people in this diocese.

In addition to serving as Dean, Fr. Nonken will continue to serve as Chaplain at the USF Episcopal Chapel Center/St. Anselm’s.

Faithfully,

The Right Reverend Dabney T. Smith
Fifth Bishop of the Diocese of Southwest Florida
