Now Accepting Applications: 2025 Lay Preacher Formation Cohort

Have you felt a call to preach the Good News? Do you long to deepen your understanding of Scripture, theology, and the history of our Church—while also learning to proclaim the Word with clarity and conviction?

The Diocese of Southwest Florida invites lay leaders to apply for the upcoming Lay Preacher Formation Cohort, a 10-month intensive training program beginning in September 2025, led by the Rev. Ethan Cole and Pastor Gerry Gardner.

Hosted at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in St. Petersburg, the cohort will meet one Saturday per month from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with additional midweek formation via Zoom.
Each session is thoughtfully divided into two enriching parts:

  • Mornings: Biblical studies, theology, and Church history
  • Afternoons: Preaching practice, feedback, and formation

Participants will journey together in community, growing as interpreters and proclaimers of the Gospel, grounded in the Episcopal tradition.

Applications are due by May 31, 2025.
Space is limited.

Be formed. Be empowered. Be a voice in the pulpit.
