It is with deep sadness that the diocese shares the death of the Rev. Katherine (Cappy) Warner on August 4, 2024. Mthr. Cappy and her late husband, Larry Warner, were long-time residents of Boca Grande. She served as an assisting priest at St. Andrew’s Boca Grande (2003-2012).
“St. Andrew’s owes much of its health and vitality to Cappy’s commitment to ministry. She was a collector of souls – inviting any and all to become members of our parish community. Her devotion to education and pastoral care was unmatched. If not leading a confirmation class or meeting with parents about baptizing their babies, she could be found sitting at the side of a widow/widower helping them to grapple with their grief and providing firm but loving support,” said The Rev. Michelle Robertshaw.
Mthr. Cappy remained in Boca Grande after the death of her husband (Larry) in 2017, but ultimately moved to an assisted living community back home in Louisville, KY.
Her son, Whit Wales, shared:
“I can speak for the family in saying that if anyone feels so moved to give anything in memory of my mother’s name, any gestures ought to be given to St. Andrew’s parish which, as you know, was an important part of my mother’s life when she was in Boca Grande.”
Mthr. Cappy’s ashes will be interred in the St Andrew’s Memorial Garden at a date to be determined by the family. A date for her service will be announced.
May her soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.
