The Right Rev. Bruce Caldwell July 8, 1947 – April 13, 2025

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of the Rt. Rev. Bruce Edward Caldwell, eighth Bishop of Wyoming, who died on Palm Sunday, April 13, 2025, at the age of 77. A son of the Diocese of Southwest Florida, Bishop Caldwell was among the first seminarians sent by Bishop E. Paul Haynes, who ordained him a deacon in 1978 and a priest in 1979. He served twice as assistant at St. John’s, Tampa, under two different rectors, and was rector of St. James House of Prayer from 1984 to 1989, where he founded Cornerstone Kids, Inc., an afterschool program still serving the Tampa Heights community today. Bishop Caldwell was elected Bishop of Wyoming in 1997, serving until 2010, and later served as Provisional Bishop of Lexington from 2016 to 2018. He will be remembered for his pastoral heart, commitment to justice, and dedication to the flourishing of all God’s people.
